"Everyone wants to improve their skills and catch rate, especially when visiting a world-class fishing destination like the Outer Banks of North Carolina."
All too often this is how it goes for beginners to Outer Banks surf fishing...
They dash out to the the local tackle shop only to be met with a mob of other beginners all asking the tackle shop workers the same questions...What's biting? Where do I go to catch them? What rod and reel do you recommend? What lures or bait should I use?, What technique is best for catching them...oh ..and..how do I do that technique?...You can imagine the level of enthusiasm and shared knowledge the tackle worker gives while trying to ring up merchandise and after having answered the same questions over and over ....day after day....especially during the summer months.
If you are a visiting saltwater angler with a boat, you may also face challenges. You'll need to know what species are being caught, what baits and lures are working, what the best time of day and tide is, where the honey hole sloughs, channels and holes are and how to best reach them. If you've towed a center to the OBX to get in on some of the year-round abundant sound, inshore or on a nice day, offshore action....you probably would prefer to fill the fish box over having a scenic tour from the topside of a sand bar..or worse, not catching fish. The waters around Oregon inlet and the associated sounds can be treacherous and the charts can provide confusing represntations of the changing channels.
The Six Categories of OBX Sport Fishing:

Pier Fishing
Wading the Sound
Sound Fishing
Near-shore Ocean boat Fishing
